Epoetin alfa + iron derisomaltose is a combination therapy used primarily to treat anemia, especially in patients with chronic kidney disease or those undergoing chemotherapy. Epoetin alfa is a recombinant form of human erythropoietin, a glycoprotein hormone that stimulates the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. Iron derisomaltose (also known as ferric derisomaltose) is an intravenous iron preparation that replenishes body iron stores necessary for effective erythropoiesis. The combination addresses both insufficient endogenous erythropoietin and depleted iron stores, which are common causes of anemia in these populations. Clinical studies have shown that combining epoetin treatment with intravenous iron supplementation can improve hemoglobin response rates compared to increasing the dose of epoetin alone[1][5]. This approach reduces the need for blood transfusions and may lower overall doses of erythropoiesis-stimulating agents.
