Equine Botulinum Neurotoxin E Immune F(ab')2 is a polyclonal antibody fragment preparation derived from the plasma of horses immunized with botulinum toxin serotype E. It consists of F(ab')2 fragments purified from equine plasma and is administered intravenously for the treatment of symptomatic or suspected exposure to botulinum neurotoxin serotype E in adults and pediatric patients. The mechanism of action involves high-affinity binding to botulinum neurotoxin type E, preventing its attachment to ganglioside anchorage sites and membrane-bound receptors on cholinergic nerve terminals, thereby blocking internalization into nerve cells and neutralizing its toxic effects[1]. This antitoxin must be administered before significant symptoms develop to prevent toxicity.
