Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination antibiotic therapy consisting of ertapenem (a carbapenem antibiotic) and metronidazole (an antibiotic effective against anaerobic bacteria). This combination is used primarily for complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAIs). While ertapenem alone has broad-spectrum activity that covers many aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, it may be combined with metronidazole in certain clinical scenarios for enhanced anaerobic coverage or based on institutional protocols.
