eryaspase + cytarabine

Eryaspase + cytarabine is an investigational combination therapy comprising eryaspase (L-asparaginase encapsulated in donor-derived red blood cells) and cytarabine (a nucleoside analogue chemotherapy). Eryaspase depletes extracellular asparagine and glutamine, targeting amino acid metabolism required for cancer cell survival, especially in leukemias. Cytarabine interferes with DNA synthesis, inhibiting rapidly dividing cells. The combination was specifically evaluated in elderly patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) unfit for intensive chemotherapy, as a potential means to improve response over low-dose cytarabine alone. The combination has also been evaluated in other hematological malignancies.
