Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Erycad (also marketed as Erycad B-250) is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing the macrolide antibiotic erythromycin and the mucolytic agent bromhexine hydrochloride. Developed and manufactured by Boffin Biotech under its Cadini Pharma division, this combination is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, such as bronchitis and pneumonia, where bacterial infection is accompanied by excessive or viscous mucus. Erythromycin acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis, while bromhexine hydrochloride acts as a mucolytic agent by depolymerizing mucopolysaccharide fibers to reduce mucus viscosity and facilitate expectoration.
