Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Erythromycin + neomycin is an antibacterial combination used in various formulations. Orally, it's used for bowel preparation before surgery to reduce intestinal bacteria. Topically, it's formulated as an ointment for bacterial skin infections including impetigo, superficial infections, minor wounds, and folliculitis. The combination provides broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, while neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that also interferes with bacterial protein synthesis but through a different mechanism.
