Escitalopram + lamotrigine is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs used primarily in the management of comorbid depressive disorders and epilepsy, or for treatment-resistant mood disorders. Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases synaptic serotonin levels by inhibiting its reuptake, thereby exerting antidepressant effects. Lamotrigine is an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer that inhibits voltage-sensitive sodium channels, stabilizes neuronal membranes, and suppresses the release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate. The combination may be used when both seizure control and mood stabilization are required or in cases where monotherapy has proven insufficient. Clinical studies suggest this combination can improve depressive symptoms and quality of life in patients with epilepsy and depression; however, there are potential risks including additive central nervous system depression, impairment of judgment/psychomotor skills, and rare adverse events such as myoclonus[2][3][5][7].
