This is a combination regimen consisting of four drugs—esomeprazole, amoxicillin, furazolidone, and tetracycline—used primarily for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. Each component has a distinct mechanism of action: - Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase in gastric parietal cells. - Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. - Furazolidone is a nitrofuran antimicrobial agent with monoamine oxidase inhibitor activity; it interferes with bacterial enzyme systems and DNA function. - Tetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit in bacteria. This quadruple therapy may be considered as an alternative or rescue regimen for patients who have failed standard triple therapy for H. pylori eradication. The combination targets multiple pathways to overcome resistance and improve eradication rates[3][8][9].
