esomeprazole + magnesium oxide

DHNP-2001A (marketed as Esomduo) is a fixed-dose combination therapy developed by Daehan Nupharm for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It consists of esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), and magnesium oxide, an antacid. Esomeprazole works by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell, thereby blocking the final step of acid production. The addition of magnesium oxide serves to rapidly neutralize existing gastric acid, providing quicker symptomatic relief and potentially improving the stability and absorption profile of the PPI by raising gastric pH. This combination is categorized as an 'Improved New Drug' (IMD) in South Korea, designed to overcome the slow onset of action typically associated with traditional PPI monotherapy.
