Overview

Esophagitis prescription (traditional Chinese medicine compound) is a botanical therapeutic developed by The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University for the treatment and prevention of acute radiation-induced esophagitis (ARIE). ARIE is a common and dose-limiting toxicity in patients receiving radiotherapy for thoracic malignancies, such as lung and esophageal cancers. This TCM compound is formulated based on traditional principles to clear heat, detoxify, and promote the healing of the esophageal mucosa. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase II randomized controlled trial (ChiCTR2400092981) to compare its efficacy against standard medical therapies in reducing the severity of radiation-induced mucosal damage and improving patient quality of life during cancer treatment.
