Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Climara Pro is an FDA-approved adhesive-based matrix transdermal patch that continuously releases two active small molecule hormones: estradiol and levonorgestrel. Estradiol is a natural estrogen that targets estrogen receptors to provide relief from moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms (such as hot flashes and night sweats) associated with menopause and to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis. Levonorgestrel is a synthetic progestin that targets progesterone receptors, primarily included to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia associated with estrogen therapy in women with an intact uterus. Beyond its approved menopausal indications, Climara Pro is being evaluated in the Phase 4 ARMOR (Hormone Replacement in Military Training) study to determine if hormone replacement can mitigate musculoskeletal injury risk and treat hypogonadism in women undergoing high-stress military training. The drug was originally developed by Schering AG and is currently manufactured by Kindeva Drug Delivery.
