Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a combination hormone replacement therapy (HRT) consisting of transdermal estradiol and oral medroxyprogesterone acetate. It was evaluated by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart for the treatment of hypothalamic amenorrhea, a condition characterized by the absence of menstruation due to suppressed hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis function. Estradiol acts as an agonist at estrogen receptors to replace deficient endogenous estrogen, while medroxyprogesterone acetate, a synthetic progestin, acts as an agonist at progesterone receptors to protect the endometrium and mimic the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. The specific regimen studied involved daily transdermal estradiol (1 mg) and sequential oral medroxyprogesterone acetate (10 mg) to assess its impact on total antioxidant capacity and bone metabolism.
