Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Norduet is a fixed-dose combination hormone replacement therapy (HRT) containing estradiol and norethisterone. Marketed by Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals in Nigeria, it is indicated for the relief of vasomotor symptoms (such as hot flashes and night sweats) and the treatment of vulvar and vaginal atrophy associated with menopause in women with an intact uterus. The estradiol component acts as an estrogen receptor agonist to supplement declining endogenous estrogen levels, thereby alleviating menopausal symptoms. The inclusion of norethisterone, a synthetic progestogen, is critical for women with a uterus to counteract the stimulatory effects of estrogen on the endometrium, significantly reducing the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma. Norduet is typically administered as a continuous combined regimen to provide symptom relief without the withdrawal bleeding associated with cyclic HRT.
