Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Duogestan is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) developed by Besins Healthcare for the management of menopausal symptoms in women with an intact uterus. It is a combination product containing estradiol, a bioidentical estrogen, and micronized progesterone. Estradiol acts as an agonist at estrogen receptors to alleviate vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats, while also preventing bone loss associated with estrogen deficiency. Progesterone is included to provide endometrial protection, counteracting the stimulatory effects of estrogen on the uterine lining and significantly reducing the risk of estrogen-induced endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma. The product is typically administered orally and has been evaluated in clinical settings for its impact on the quality of life in menopausal populations.
