Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Etanercept + hydroxychloroquine is a combination therapy used in the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), particularly for patients with active disease who have not responded adequately to monotherapy. Etanercept is a recombinant fusion protein that acts as a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor, binding and neutralizing TNF-alpha, a key cytokine involved in systemic inflammation. Hydroxychloroquine is a small molecule antimalarial and immunomodulatory agent that interferes with lysosomal activity and antigen presentation in immune cells, reducing inflammation. The combination has been shown to be efficacious and generally well tolerated in clinical studies for RA[1][2][4][8].
