Group 2-Minia University-cancer pain refers to the control arm of a clinical trial conducted by Minia University, consisting of a combination of 96% ethanol and 10 mg/ml lidocaine. This combination is administered via splanchnic nerve neurolysis (SNN) to manage severe intra-abdominal cancer pain, particularly from malignancies like pancreatic cancer. Ethanol acts as a neurolytic agent, inducing permanent nerve destruction through protein denaturation and lipid extraction from the neural cell membranes. Lidocaine, a local anesthetic, is included to provide immediate analgesia and to mitigate the intense, transient burning sensation typically caused by the injection of ethanol. The study evaluated this standard neurolytic mixture against an experimental group receiving the same mixture with the addition of dexmedetomidine to determine if the adjuvant improved pain control and quality of life.
