Overview
Welestra 30 is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) developed and marketed by Adorshea Bioceutics. It is a fixed-dose combination of two small molecule hormones: ethinylestradiol (0.03 mg), a synthetic estrogen, and levonorgestrel (0.15 mg), a second-generation synthetic progestogen. The drug's primary mechanism of action involves the suppression of ovulation by inhibiting the secretion of gonadotropins (follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone) from the pituitary gland. Additionally, it induces changes in the cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration and alters the endometrium to reduce the probability of successful implantation. Welestra 30 is approved for the prevention of pregnancy and is administered as a daily oral tablet.
