T-ACE Oil is an iodized oil-based embolic agent and radio-opaque contrast medium developed by the South Korean company T-ACE Medical. It is composed of ethiodized oil (iodized poppyseed oil fatty acid ethyl esters) and is specifically designed for use in transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). T-ACE Oil serves a dual purpose: it acts as a radio-opaque contrast agent to guide the procedure under fluoroscopy and functions as an embolic agent that selectively accumulates in the hypervascular tumor microenvironment. In TACE procedures, it is typically emulsified with chemotherapeutic agents (such as doxorubicin or cisplatin), allowing for sustained, localized drug release within the tumor while simultaneously inducing ischemia through vessel occlusion.
