Overview

Etomidate + ciprofol is a combination of two intravenous anesthetic agents: etomidate and ciprofol. Both are used for the induction and maintenance of anesthesia or sedation, particularly in surgical, endoscopic, and critical care settings. - **Etomidate** is a non-barbiturate hypnotic agent that acts by enhancing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) activity at the GABA-A receptor, leading to CNS depression and sedation. It is favored for its hemodynamic stability, especially in patients with cardiovascular compromise, as it tends to cause minimal changes in blood pressure and heart rate. - **Ciprofol** is a novel, potent, short-acting GABA-A receptor agonist structurally related to propofol, possessing a higher affinity due to the presence of a cyclopropyl group in its structure. Ciprofol demonstrates rapid onset, short duration of action, and reduced adverse effects compared to propofol, such as less injection pain and milder respiratory and cardiovascular depression. The combination of these agents is under clinical investigation for procedural sedation or induction of anesthesia, with the hypothesis that co-administration may further optimize sedation quality and minimize individual drug side effects. This specific combination is not yet widely marketed or officially approved as a fixed-dose product.
