This regimen is being evaluated in patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC) as part of a multimodal approach that includes concurrent thoracic radiotherapy, the PD-1 inhibitor toripalimab, and the multi-kinase inhibitor surufatinib. Etoposide functions as a topoisomerase II inhibitor, inducing DNA double-strand breaks by stabilizing the enzyme-DNA complex. Cisplatin and carboplatin are platinum-based alkylating agents that form covalent cross-links with DNA, thereby interfering with DNA replication and transcription, ultimately leading to cell death in rapidly proliferating tumor cells.
