Etoposide + vindesine is a chemotherapy combination used primarily for treating small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). Etoposide is a podophyllotoxin derivative that inhibits DNA synthesis by forming a complex with topoisomerase II and DNA, inducing breaks in double-stranded DNA and preventing repair. This leads to cell death, primarily affecting cells in the G2 and S phases of the cell cycle. Vindesine is a vinca alkaloid. The combination has demonstrated a response rate of 43.9% with a median survival time of 9.3 months in SCLC patients. It's particularly suitable for elderly patients and those with comorbidities due to its milder side effect profile compared to other regimens.
