Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Eucalyptus oil is a natural plant extract and essential oil derived from the leaves of Eucalyptus species, primarily *Eucalyptus globulus*. In the field of pediculosis, it is developed and marketed by Ego Pharmaceuticals as the primary active component of the MOOV Head Lice product range for the treatment of head lice infestation (pediculosis capitis) in children. Unlike traditional neurotoxic pediculicides, eucalyptus oil operates via a physical and mechanical mode of action, disrupting the biomechanical mechanisms of the head louse and preventing the development of resistance. It is typically formulated topically, often in combination with other essential oils such as *Leptospermum petersonii* (lemon-scented tea tree) oil, and has been clinically validated in Phase 4 trials in Australia.
