European viper venom antiserum (equine), historically known as the Zagreb antivenom, is an equine-derived passive immunotherapeutic agent developed by the Institute of Immunology in Zagreb, Croatia. It consists of purified F(ab')2 fragments of immunoglobulins obtained from horses hyperimmunized with the venom of the nose-horned viper (*Vipera ammodytes*). This polyvalent antivenom is indicated for the treatment of envenomation in both humans and animals caused by European vipers of the genus *Vipera*, specifically protecting against the venoms of five species: *Vipera ammodytes*, *Vipera berus*, *Vipera aspis*, *Vipera xanthina*, and *Vipera lebetina*. It works by binding and neutralizing the toxic enzymatic and non-enzymatic components of the venoms. Although production was temporarily halted, a revitalization project is underway to construct a new manufacturing facility in Rugvica, Croatia, to resume production of this critical biological product.
