Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EVA101 is a medical device composed of perfluorodecalin, a perfluorocarbon known for its exceptionally high gas-carrying capacity, particularly for oxygen. It is being developed by Maruishi Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with EVA Therapeutics for the treatment of hypoxemia, specifically to improve oxygenation in patients with oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels of 90% or lower. The device utilizes the **Enteral Ventilation via Anus (EVA)** technology, which involves the rectal administration of oxygen-rich perfluorodecalin to facilitate systemic gas exchange through the intestinal mucosa. This approach provides a supplemental route for oxygenation in patients with severe respiratory failure, such as those with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), where conventional mechanical ventilation may be insufficient or potentially harmful. EVA101 is currently in Phase 1 clinical development in Japan.
