evolocumab + statin

A **combination therapy** of evolocumab and a statin is used to lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) more effectively than statin monotherapy. **Evolocumab** is a fully human monoclonal antibody that inhibits proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), leading to increased LDL receptor recycling and enhanced clearance of LDL-C from the bloodstream. Statins are small-molecule inhibitors of HMG-CoA reductase, reducing the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver and upregulating LDL receptors. The combination is mainly indicated in patients who require additional LDL-C lowering despite maximally tolerated statin therapy, particularly those with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, familial hypercholesterolemia, and mixed dyslipidemia.
