Overview

This investigational combination therapy, studied by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, involves the use of exenatide as an adjunctive treatment to a standard intensive insulin regimen (comprising both long-acting and rapid-acting insulins) for patients with Type 1 Diabetes. Exenatide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that helps manage postprandial glucose levels by delaying gastric emptying and suppressing inappropriate glucagon secretion. When combined with basal (long-acting) and prandial (rapid-acting) insulin, the regimen aims to improve overall glycemic control and reduce the incidence of postprandial hyperglycemia, particularly in new-onset Type 1 Diabetes patients and adolescents.
