Overview

Exenatide-CTP + Glucagon-CTP (E1 + G1) is an experimental combination therapy developed by OPKO Health for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The therapy utilizes the Carboxy Terminal Peptide (CTP) technology, originally developed by PROLOR Biotech, to extend the half-life of the peptide hormones. E1 is a long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist (exenatide-CTP), while G1 is a long-acting glucagon receptor agonist (glucagon-CTP). This dual-agonist approach is designed to mimic the metabolic benefits of oxyntomodulin, promoting insulin secretion, suppressing appetite, and increasing energy expenditure to improve glycemic control and facilitate weight loss. The combination was evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to determine the safety and optimal ratio of the two components.
