Drug intelligence / Profile preview
exendin-4 + human [Leu15]gastrin-17 is a preclinical combination therapy consisting of exendin-4, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonist, and human [Leu15]gastrin-17, a cholecystokinin B receptor (CCK2R) agonist. Developed by Zealand Pharma, this combination leverages the synergistic effects of GLP-1R and CCK2R dual activation to promote pancreatic beta-cell proliferation, enhance islet cell survival, and improve glycemic control. Preclinical studies in rodent models of diabetes have demonstrated that co-administration of these two peptides significantly increases beta-cell mass and protects against palmitate- and cytokine-induced apoptosis, suggesting therapeutic potential for the treatment and prevention of Type 2 diabetes.
