Exo-HWS + Exo-HUVEC is an experimental combination exosome therapy developed by Indonesia University for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). It consists of exosomes derived from Human Wharton's Jelly Mesenchymal Stem Cells (Exo-HWS) and Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (Exo-HUVEC). This cell-free therapeutic approach utilizes extracellular vesicles to deliver a cargo of microRNAs, proteins, and lipids that exert immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative effects. The therapy is administered via monthly intravenous bolus injections and is designed to improve glycemic control—measured by HbA1c, fasting blood glucose, and C-peptide levels—while reducing systemic inflammation, as evidenced by changes in biomarkers such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Interleukin-10 (IL-10), and C-reactive protein (CRP). By combining MSC-derived exosomes with endothelial-derived exosomes, the treatment aims to address both the metabolic dysfunction and the underlying inflammatory and vascular complications associated with T2DM.
