Overview

Exosomes + azelastine + interferon alpha-2b is an investigational, multi-component nasal spray formulation being developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical College for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) during acute phases. The drug is delivered as a thermosensitive gel that transitions into a soft gel upon contact with the nasal mucosa to provide sustained release of its three active components. These include: (1) umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell (UC-MSC)-derived exosomes, which provide immunomodulatory and tissue-regenerative effects; (2) azelastine, a selective H1-receptor antagonist that reduces allergic inflammation and stabilizes mast cells; and (3) interferon alpha-2b, a recombinant cytokine that exerts antiviral and immunomodulatory actions. This combination therapy aims to repair the nasal lining, reduce inflammation, and combat viral triggers associated with acute exacerbations of CRS.
