Overview

Expanded regulatory T cells (Tregs) is an autologous cell therapy consisting of recipient-derived polyclonal CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells that have been expanded *ex vivo*. Developed by the Medical University of Vienna, this investigational product (informally designated as RegTivex) is being evaluated in the Trex001 trial for HLA-mismatched living donor kidney transplant recipients. The therapy is designed to induce donor-specific immunological tolerance and provide pro-tolerogenic immunomodulation, thereby preventing allograft rejection and potentially allowing for the reduction or elimination of standard maintenance immunosuppression. In clinical protocols, it is often administered in conjunction with tocilizumab and donor bone marrow infusion to facilitate immune system reprogramming.
