Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ruvan-Z is a fixed-dose combination of rosuvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin), and ezetimibe, a selective cholesterol absorption inhibitor. Rosuvastatin works by inhibiting 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase in the liver, thereby reducing endogenous cholesterol synthesis and upregulating hepatic LDL receptors to increase LDL clearance. Ezetimibe targets the Niemann-Pick C1-like 1 (NPC1L1) transporter in the small intestine, blocking the absorption of dietary and biliary cholesterol. Together, these complementary mechanisms provide a synergistic lipid-lowering effect, significantly reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. Ruvan-Z is developed and manufactured by Aristopharma in Bangladesh and is indicated as an adjunct to diet for the treatment of primary hyperlipidemia and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.
