Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FA18:4 is an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) analogue isolated from the marine dinoflagellate *Prorocentrum lima*. It has demonstrated neuroprotective potential by modulating microglial function. Specifically, in human microglia clone 3 (HMC3) cells, FA18:4 significantly enhanced chemotactic migration and promoted amyloid-β42 (Aβ42) phagocytosis, while maintaining cellular viability and avoiding pro-inflammatory activation at a concentration of 20 μM. These findings suggest its potential therapeutic role in conditions like Alzheimer's disease.
