Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Plasma-derived factor XIII concentrate is a purified, pasteurized concentrate of coagulation factor XIII (FXIII) derived from pooled human plasma. FXIII is a pro-transglutaminase heterotetramer consisting of two catalytic A-subunits and two carrier B-subunits. Upon activation by thrombin and calcium ions, activated FXIII (FXIIIa) catalyzes the cross-linking of fibrin monomers, alpha-2-plasmin inhibitor, and fibronectin, which stabilizes the fibrin clot and increases its resistance to fibrinolysis. It is primarily indicated for routine prophylactic treatment and perioperative management of surgical bleeding in adult and pediatric patients with congenital factor XIII deficiency.
