Overview

Falciparum malaria protein 11 (FMP011) + AS02A is an experimental vaccine candidate for the prevention of *Plasmodium falciparum* malaria. FMP011 is a recombinant protein consisting of a 54-kDa, 456-amino-acid polypeptide derived from the N-terminal region of the *P. falciparum* apical membrane antigen-1 (AMA1), which plays a key role in erythrocyte invasion by the parasite[5]. The vaccine formulation includes the adjuvant system AS02A, designed to enhance immune responses. In clinical studies, this combination has been shown to induce strong antibody and cellular immune responses against AMA1 but did not prevent parasitemia following controlled human malaria infection[4][5]. The primary indication is for prophylaxis against *P. falciparum* malaria.
