Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of two distinct antiviral medications that target different aspects of the influenza virus replication cycle. Favipiravir inhibits RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) by acting as a nucleoside analog that terminates RNA strand elongation, preventing viral genome replication. Baloxavir marboxil is a prodrug that is metabolized to baloxavir acid, which inhibits the cap-dependent endonuclease function of the polymerase acidic (PA) protein, preventing viral mRNA synthesis. Both drugs are effective against influenza A and B viruses, with favipiravir also showing activity against influenza C and D viruses.
