Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FBT-N101 + aflibercept (also referred to as FBT-N101 + Eylea) is an investigational combination therapy being developed by FusionBioTech for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD). The combination consists of FBT-N101, a small molecule MDM2 inhibitor, and aflibercept, a recombinant fusion protein that acts as a decoy receptor for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). FBT-N101 functions as a senolytic agent by disrupting the MDM2-p53 interaction, thereby selectively inducing apoptosis in senescent retinal cells to address the underlying cellular aging process. Aflibercept inhibits angiogenesis and vascular permeability by binding to VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PlGF). By combining senolytic therapy with anti-VEGF therapy, this combination aims to provide a synergistic therapeutic effect for patients with wet AMD.
