Overview

Fecal microbiota transplant is a live biotherapeutic product being investigated by the University of Minnesota for the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). [18] It is formulated as lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in oral capsules. [12, 13] The therapy is based on the hypothesis that altering the patient's gut microbiome can influence the cutaneous (skin) microbiome and reduce systemic inflammation through gut-derived metabolites, thereby improving the symptoms of HS. [12, 14, 16] A pilot study is underway to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this approach. [12]
