Overview

Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is a procedure in which processed stool from a healthy donor is transferred into the gastrointestinal tract of a recipient to restore or modify the gut microbiome. Pembrolizumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor, blocking its interaction with PD-L1 and PD-L2, thereby enhancing T-cell mediated immune responses against tumor cells. The combination of FMT and pembrolizumab has been investigated as an approach to overcome resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors in cancer patients, particularly those with advanced melanoma or other solid tumors who have not responded to prior immunotherapy. FMT may alter the gut microbiome composition, potentially improving host immune responsiveness and increasing the efficacy of pembrolizumab by promoting anti-tumor immunity[3][4][5][8].
