Overview
Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) developed by Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) is a microbial therapy consisting of oral, capsulized, frozen fecal matter derived from healthy donors. This specific preparation is being evaluated in the Phase 3 ICEBOAT trial for the treatment of severe irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) that is refractory to conventional treatments. The therapy aims to restore a healthy and diverse gut microbiome composition, which is frequently disrupted in patients with IBS. The treatment protocol involves the administration of approximately 24 grams of stool delivered in oral capsules over a single day following a colon cleansing procedure, intended to reduce the IBS severity score by modulating the intestinal ecosystem.
