Overview

Encapsulated fecal microbiota transplantation (cFMT) is a microbial therapy involving the oral administration of donor-derived fecal microbiota that has been processed and concentrated into capsules. This approach is designed to restore gut microbial diversity and homeostasis, which are often severely disrupted in patients with critical illnesses, including severe COVID-19. By restoring the intestinal flora, cFMT aims to modulate the gut-lung axis and mitigate systemic inflammatory responses. The therapy is currently being evaluated in clinical trials by Ningbo First Hospital to determine its efficacy and safety in improving clinical outcomes for patients with severe novel coronavirus infections.
