Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and bezlotoxumab. FMT is a procedure in which processed stool from a healthy donor is introduced into the gastrointestinal tract of a patient, primarily to restore healthy gut flora and treat recurrent or refractory Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). The mechanism involves repopulating the colon with beneficial bacteria to outcompete C. difficile and restore microbial balance[1][2][3]. Bezlotoxumab is a human monoclonal antibody that binds to and neutralizes C. difficile toxin B, thereby reducing recurrence of CDI by preventing toxin-mediated damage. This combination aims to both directly neutralize C. difficile toxins (bezlotoxumab) and restore gut microbial diversity (FMT), potentially providing synergistic benefit for patients at high risk for recurrent CDI.
