Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Felis catus dander + felis catus skin is a **standardized allergenic extract biologic** composed of extracts from domestic cat dander and skin derived from cat pelt, marketed by Greer Laboratories for diagnostic skin testing and allergen immunotherapy in cat-allergic patients. The major clinically relevant allergen in the preparation is **Fel d 1**, which binds allergen-specific **IgE** on mast cells and basophils; in diagnostic use it provokes an immediate hypersensitivity response, while in immunotherapy repeated subcutaneous administration is intended to induce immune tolerance and reduce sensitivity to cat hair allergens. It is used for patients with cat allergy-associated allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and allergic asthma when avoidance is not feasible, and is supplied as a sterile standardized solution.
