Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fenofibric acid + simvastatin is a fixed-dose combination therapy used to treat mixed dyslipidemia and high cholesterol. Fenofibric acid, a fibric acid derivative, activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) to modify fatty acid and lipid metabolism, reducing triglycerides and increasing HDL cholesterol. Simvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that lowers LDL cholesterol by inhibiting the rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis. The combination provides greater improvements in lipid profiles than either agent alone, particularly for patients with elevated triglycerides and low HDL-C. This therapy is primarily indicated for adults with mixed dyslipidemia who require both LDL-C reduction and management of elevated triglycerides[2][4][5].
