Overview
Fenoterol + ipratropium is an inhaled fixed-dose bronchodilator combination containing **fenoterol hydrobromide**, a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, and **ipratropium bromide**, a short-acting muscarinic receptor antagonist. Fenoterol relaxes bronchial smooth muscle through beta-2 adrenergic receptor stimulation, while ipratropium inhibits vagally mediated bronchoconstriction through muscarinic receptor blockade. The complementary mechanisms produce bronchodilation for reversible obstructive airway disease. It has been marketed by Boehringer Ingelheim under brands including Berodual, Bronchodual, and Duovent for bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis with or without emphysema.
