Overview

This drug is a fixed-dose combination of three active ingredients used for the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Fenoterol is a selective beta-2 adrenergic agonist that induces bronchodilation by relaxing bronchial smooth muscle. Ipratropium bromide is an anticholinergic agent that blocks muscarinic receptors, inhibiting acetylcholine-mediated bronchoconstriction. Oxtriphylline, a theophylline derivative, acts as a bronchodilator primarily through phosphodiesterase inhibition and increased cyclic AMP levels in airway smooth muscle. The combination provides enhanced bronchodilation via complementary mechanisms—beta-2 stimulation, muscarinic antagonism, and phosphodiesterase inhibition—resulting in improved airflow and symptom control in patients with reversible airway obstruction such as asthma or COPD[1][5]. Clinical studies have shown this triple regimen offers greater overall benefit compared to dual combinations or monotherapy without increasing adverse effects[1].
