Overview

Fenoterol + oxtriphylline is a combination drug used primarily for the management of asthma and other respiratory conditions characterized by bronchoconstriction. Fenoterol is a selective beta-2 adrenergic agonist that induces bronchodilation by relaxing bronchial smooth muscle, thereby increasing airflow in the lungs. Oxtriphylline is a xanthine derivative (a salt of theophylline) that acts as a bronchodilator through inhibition of phosphodiesterase, leading to increased cyclic AMP levels and subsequent relaxation of airway smooth muscle. The combination aims to provide additive or synergistic bronchodilatory effects for patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Clinical studies have shown significant additive improvement in lung function when both drugs are administered together, though side effects such as tachycardia and tremor may also be increased[3][1]. This combination is generally used when monotherapy does not provide adequate control.
