fentanyl + CHADD

**Fentanyl + CHADD** is an investigational drug-device system developed by ZARS Pharmaceuticals for chronic and breakthrough pain. It combines a matrix transdermal fentanyl patch with CHADD, a thin chemical heating device applied over the patch for approximately 15–20 minutes to transiently increase fentanyl delivery through the skin. Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid analgesic that activates the mu-type opioid receptor, reducing nociceptive neurotransmission and pain perception. The CHADD-enabled system was evaluated in a terminated Phase 2 proof-of-concept study in adults with moderate-to-severe non-malignant chronic pain and breakthrough pain.
