Overview

Fentanyl + flurbiprofen axetil is a combination analgesic therapy used primarily for postoperative pain management. Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid agonist at the mu-opioid receptor, providing strong analgesia and sedation. Flurbiprofen axetil is an injectable prodrug of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) flurbiprofen, which acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes to reduce inflammation and pain. The combination has been shown to enhance analgesic effects compared to fentanyl alone, allowing for lower opioid doses and reducing opioid-related adverse effects such as nausea, dizziness, and lethargy. This synergy may be associated with increased endogenous β-endorphin levels postoperatively[1][5][7]. The combination is typically administered via intravenous infusion or patient-controlled analgesia in surgical settings.
