Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fentanyl and hydromorphone are both potent opioid analgesics used for pain management. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid approximately 50-100 times more potent than morphine, while hydromorphone is a semi-synthetic opioid approximately 2-8 times more potent than morphine. Both medications bind to opioid receptors in the central nervous system to produce analgesia, with primary activity at mu-opioid receptors. They are Schedule II controlled substances with high potential for abuse and addiction.
